Owning a compost bin is a great way to dispose of your vegetable and fruit scraps, tea bags, eggshells and newspapers. These waste materials would otherwise normally end up at the landfill (if the newspaper isn't recycled). Unfortunately, they would then decay anaerobically, which would result in the production of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

However, by composting, an average household could prevent the release of a quarter of a tonne of carbon dioxide per year!
